About This Project

Verwandlungskreis
Circle of Transformation
Berlin, Germany

Diameter 4 m, height 2,6 m. Built in August 2002 on the former death zone near Checkpoint Charlie in the centre of Berlin. The sculpture was built of 8 ton of red clay in 3 weeks with 10 helpers and consisted of two concentric rings. The inner ring was very thick and solid, made up of many small clay modules and the outer was more open. It was round and even and appeared very simple, thus gave contrast to the surrounding very different buildings and to the history of the site.
